About CQDM
Areas of Activity
There is consensus among all biopharmaceutical industry stakeholders on the importance of rapidly deploying major efforts to support the development of new methods to accelerate the development of new drugs and make them safer and more effective for patients.
CQDM is well positioned to contribute to international efforts: it targets sectors of precompetitive biomedical research that have already been identified and for which Québec has centres of excellence, areas of specialty and/or internationally competitive technology platforms.
CQDM activities aim at developing tools that will have a major impact on biopharmaceutical research by:
- Opening new therapeutic approaches and new research avenues
- Developing safe and effective new drugs
- Increasing the efficacy of already existing drugs
- Reducing costs, time and risks associated with the discovery and development of new drugs

In this way, CQDM promotes the development of multidisciplinary projects. The areas of specialization and the research priorities are established by the CQDM advisory board that includes representatives from the industrial and academic milieus. For example, the projects could focus on:
-
Innovative platforms
- Novel therapeutic approaches for biologics (including peptides, RNAs, next generation Abs)
- Breakthrough in protein expression systems
- Innovative chemistry platform with the potential to bring new highly potent families of molecules
- Cutting edge technologies that could significantly improve the productivity of synthetic chemistry (monitoring real time reactions, purification, flow analysis etc.)
- Innovative system biology with a strong potential impact on drug translational research
- Enabling cell-based research tools
- Novel approaches for drug repositioning
Translational technologies
- Computer tools for knowledge management, data mining, modeling and predictive analysis
- New biomarkers or imaging tools for:
- predictivity of efficacy or safety;
- development of surrogate markers;
- diagnostic and stratification of diseases;
- monitoring of diseases.
- Precision (personalized) medicine
- Validation of new therapeutic targets
Cutting edge drug delivery technologies
- RNAi
- Increased drug absorption
- Vaccine delivery
- Crossing the blood brain barrier
- Innovative formulations
- Delivery systems for biologics
- Oral protein delivery
Instruments and medical devices
- New imaging technologies for clinical or preclinical purposes
- Nanotechnologies
- New instruments bringing significant improvements on in vivo or in vitro measurements or allowing the assessment of new parameters
- New diagnostic or prognostic tools for patient recruitment or monitoring in clinical trials
